Penn State wrestler Rohan Murphy compiled a 30-3 record in his home state of Minnesota - despite the fact that his legs were amputated when he was four years old(!) He can bench press 290. His conditioning includes running up a ski slope on his hands. Here's a video of this inspirational athlete. We've got a link to an article about him as well. But if you just Google his name, you'll see lots more. Amazing - check it out!
A quad meet at Annandale - has been added to the schedule on Dec. 23.
The DEA Classic at Mount Vernon - originally scheduled for Dec. 22 and 23, has been canceled.
The Willie Walters Invitational at James Wood - originally scheduled for Dec. 28 and 29, is actually set for Dec. 27 and 28.
The JV Jamboree at South County - originally scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 14, is actually set for Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 6 pm.
Anyone who would like to
purchase ad space for the Winter Sports Program that the
Wrestling team is sponsoring (and will be selling at all
winter sporting events at Marshall), please contact Kathy Montes (either
e-mail or
phone)
by December 1st, and let her know of your interest.
This is a great way to send encouragement to our student athletes and it
benefits a wonderful organization --- the Wrestling Program!!
There will be a team meeting AT 730 AM on Friday, October 27th. This is mandatory for all planning to wrestle on this year's team. Please be sure to bring all of the required forms including an emergency care card, communicable disease form and extracurricular participant pledge. In addition, the physical form is required if you did not submit one for a fall sport. All of the forms were included in the packet handed out at the last meeting - or can be found on this website. We've got a set of notes for Marshall wrestlers (and their families), that covers the 2006 Marshall Wrestling program. It's pretty big (about 2.5 M-bytes!), but it includes information about tryouts, practices, equipment, eligibility requirements, match schedules, wrestling during holidays, weekly grade sheets, fundraising, spirit packs, and contact information ... as well as information for Team Managers and parent or other family volunteers!
In an effort to build team spirit that extends through the Marshall Wrestling family in addition to some fundraising, the Wrestling Team will be sponsoring regular "Dinner Nights" throughout the school year. Dinner Nights will be held at Anthony's in Falls Church, on Tuesdays twice a month. The detailed schedule, a copy of the latest Anthony's menu, and a restaurant review are all included:
