ADVERTISE IN THE 2007-08 WINTER PROGRAMS! - Anyone who would like to purchase ad space for the Winter Sports Program that the Wrestling team is sponsoring (and will be selling at all winter sporting events at Marshall), please contact Holly Giles. For more information, see our online ad sales flyer. This is a great way to send encouragement to our student athletes and it benefits a wonderful organization --- the Wrestling Program!!

FALL TUNE-UP SERIES - The Colonial Forge Fall Tune-up Clinic Series offers five different clinics - each of which is led by a different college wrestling coach. They're held on weekends, running from 9/16 through 10/13, at Colonial Forge HS in Stafford, VA. (Perhaps it's not a coincidence that Colonial Forge wrestlers were state champs in 2006-07 :-)
-- Marshall's Outstanding Wrestler in 2006-07, Adam Fisher, attended these clinics and says he found them very helpful.
-- Cost is $150 (less expensive than most 5 day camps) and the coaching is first-rate. Enrollment is limited - so sign up early. www.virginiawrestling.com

OFFSEASON WRESTLING CAMP - A reminder that all camp application forms need to be submitted to coach ASAP. If you need additional forms, they're available (in ready-to-print PDF format) right here on the marshallwrestling Web site!
-- The team camp is at State University of New York (SUNY) Courtland (Courtland, NY) from July 8-13.
-- Of course if you have any questions, see Coach Planakis!

NO COSTUMES, NO TAG TEAMS - THIS IS THE REAL DEAL - (and if you haven't tried it yet, be sure to click on the picture of the two wrestlers at left :-)

TEAM NEWS, and about the marshallwrestling.org web site

December 28th, 2010 by GBA

All the latest rosters, schedules and news on the George C. Marshall wrestling program are best provided at the new wrestling site ... click here:

At this time, the marshallwrestling.org Web site is primarily preserved as an archive of the team's activities during 2006-2008. As such, the links and content on these pages are from those years, and many of the links are undoubtedly out of date. Again ... for up to date information, you should be using the new gcmstatesmensports site, listed above. Thanks!

Report from States!

February 23rd, 2008 by ParentZone

Marshall Wrestling Fans:

Yes, Andy looked very good wining his first-round match against the number two seed from the Central District. He then lost in the quarter finals at 6:30 on Friday and lost again around 9:30 in the consolation bracket against wrestlers from the Northwest Region.

In his first match, Andy was ahead 6-2 in the third period and comfortably controlling his opponent. Then things turned Bad (with a capital B). I'll omit the editorializing … the facts will speak for themselves: During an out of bounds stoppage, the opponent was ruled to have engaged in unsportsmanlike conduct and the referee awarded Andy an extra point. When wrestling resumed, the opponent was penalized for eye gouging (two more points). As you can imagine, Andy was in a tremendous amount of pain and discomfort. He wanted to finish wrestling but the trainer declared Andy medically unable to continue and the match was stopped. So Andy won the match by disqualification; the official score was 9-1.

Because Andy was medically unable to continue, we had to take him to a clinic to be cleared by a doctor so he could wrestle in the quarterfinals. That process took about 1-1/2 hours, but we got him back to the school well before the 6:30 quarterfinal round.

Many thanks to everyone who supported Andy through his run in the regional tournament and here at states. I was especially pleased to see how many folks came to watch him in the regionals on the final day, including last year's wrestlers Adam Fisher and Raffi Teperdjian.

WELCOME BACK!

Welcome to GCM Statesmen Wrestling! As we move into the fall offseason, there are several activities that wrestlers can participate in:

At 3:15 PM we will live-wrestle in the wrestling room for an hour. All wrestlers are encouraged to participate (although not if it conflicts with participation in a fall sport of course)!
  • Open mats at Hayfield give us additional wrestling opportunities ... they're open on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We leave Marshall at 5:30 PM and return by 8:30.
-- As many of you may know, there is a spirited competition in the offseason among wrestlers who take part in activities that help improve their skills and overall fitness!
